Key Accountabilities: 

Role Purpose: The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Fire Station’s fabrication workshops. The role ensures all equipment and machinery are maintained and functional, supports the Fabrication Lab Specialist, and works directly with resident artists. The supervisor also facilitates fabrication workshops and ensures a safe, organized, and productive creative environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the fabrication workshops ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Supervise workshop support staff, assign tasks, and monitor performance.
  • Assist in budgeting for maintenance, repairs, supplies, and services, and implement cost-effective measures.
  • Liaise with external vendors, suppliers, and contractors; manage procurement processes and monitor service delivery.
  • Enforce HSE regulations, safety protocols, and risk management procedures, conduct risk assessments.
  • Interpret as-built drawings and supervise facility modifications and equipment installations.
  • Assist in the commissioning of new equipment or machinery and upgrades.
  • Operate workshop machinery and perform minor maintenance and repairs.
  • Support the Fabrication Workshop Specialist in conducting workshops.
  • Manage inventory, including ordering and handling of materials.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
  • Train staff, artists, interns, and guests on workshop tools, equipment, and software.
  • Coordinate scheduling and delivery of workshop programs, including evening/weekend sessions.
  • Evaluate workshop activities and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Seek and manage resources for materials, supplies, and tools.
  • Participate in collaborative team projects and perform additional duties as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements: 
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication workshop operations and equipment maintenance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Highly proficient in computer use and design software
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to dynamic environments
  • Strong team leadership and independent problem-solving abilities
  • Advanced understanding of materials, production techniques, and fabrication workflows
  • High school or diploma qualification, preferably in Industrial Art, Design, or a similar field.
  • Proven experience in coordination, outreach, and vendor/contractor relations
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication equipment and software including:
  • CAD/CAM, image editing, 3D modelling
  • CNC machines, laser cutters, 3D printers, and other rapid prototyping tools.
  • A minimum of 16 years of relevant experience in a supervisory or technical workshop role for diploma holders, and a minimum of 20 years for high school graduates.
