Key Accountabilities:
- Work with curatorial staff to determine all aspects of the gallery environment including layout of art work, wall construction, custom casework, finishes etc. for exhibitions as well as touring exhibitions, as required.
- In collaboration with relevant QM teams and external stakeholders, produce concept exhibition experience design drawings and visuals for approval.
- In collaboration with relevant QM teams, internal or external graphic design internal and external stakeholders, to incorporate into a holistic experience design.
- Identify design solutions and detailed layouts for object display, object mount solutions, showcases, exhibition lighting etc. in collaboration with Curatorial, Conservation, Registration, and Exhibition departments.
- Coordinate implementation of exhibition design in the museum galleries, whether design is developed in-house or by an outside designer.
- Liaise on content development in collaboration with internal QM departments including Communications, Collections, and Education teams. Ensure that this developing content drives the planning, look and feel, of all exhibition designs.
- Ensure that both 2D and 3D designs develop and are completed in compliance with local and international standards (design, health and safety, access etc.)
- Manage the making of models and moquette’s as well as prototypes and mock-ups.
- Create CAD drawings and other computer renderings to communicate final design plans to all other departments as required.
- Review and red line drawings and construction documentation, specifications.
- Work in partnership with Exhibition Project Managers to develop design and construction programs.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of best practice museum. Exhibitions standards, including conservation and registration requirements
- Interface with Art Preparation, Construct ion, Fabrication, Graphic Design, Conservation, Facilities, Visitor Services, Security, Fire Safety, Lighting, Audio / Video, Education, and Special Events to ensure exhibition design meets standards for fine art display and visitor safety/ experience.
- Other duties, as assigned.
- Ensure that designs are developed and delivered within specified budgets and meet critical time frames established.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Education Requirments: B.A in Architecture, Interior Design or a related field.
Experience Required: 3 years experience of experience in all phases of design and construction as a 3-D design manager or architect.
