Role purpose: Assist the Art Mill Museum team in developing and delivering high quality exhibition projects and related activities for the Art Mill Museum in line with the Museum’s mission, vision and strategic objectives. Participates in research, project development for exhibitions, publications and interpretation, and all other related activities of the Department. Provides curatorial support to the Director and Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs in research, exhibition development and presentations. Participates in the project development as a whole.
Roles & responsibilities:
• Conduct research, participate in curating exhibitions and in the accompaniment of artists, support the commissioning process.
• Contribute to the development of the concept of the museum and its architecture, of the collection, of artists’ commissions, pre-opening exhibitions, projects and programmes.
• Input collection research data in the collection management system (EMU), in close collaboration with the Art Mill Museum curators, General Collection and the Public Art team.
• Provide support in managing loan administration and monitoring budgets and expenditure in relation to specific allocated projects.
• Managing some of the Art Mill Museum touring exhibitions.
• Contribute to writing, proof-reading and editing documents, exhibition related contents, briefing papers, reports, and presentations.
• Assist with information gathering, presenting findings, publications.
• Work closely on all matters relating to the Director and Art Mill Museum team.
• Manage and maintain relationships on the Director’s behalf.
• Contribute to the relations between the Art Mill Museum team and Qatar Museums departments.
• Maintain the highest standards of professional, scholarly and ethical practice, ensuring the confidentiality of the project, gallery designs and collections at all times.
• Conduct tours for general public and VIPs as needed.
• Mentor junior curators if required and other relevant staff that may benefit from their experience.
• Take meeting minutes, record actions, and handle actionable and follow-up items as required.
• Perform other related duties and functions in the assistant curator’s field of expertise as may be required.
• BA/MA in Curating, Museum or Heritage Studies, Archaeology or Ancient History, Art History or Classics, Natural Sciences, Anthropology, Art Education, Museum Gallery Practices.
• 5 years’ experience of working in a museum context
• Good knowledge of museum working practices
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and with key personnel with discretion and confidentiality
• Collections Research and Collections holding
• Highly organized, motivated, team player
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to exercise good judgment
• Time management skills, ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize workload
• Accurate and detailed
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, MS Teams, Zoom, conference calls
• Experienced in using Collection Management software, desirable using EMU
• Basic knowledge of collection preventive conservation and restoration
• Knowledge in modern and contemporary art and public art
• Excellent communication skills (Arabic/English)
