Role Purpose
The film specialist works collaboratively with the Head of Multimedia to lead writing and production of filmmaking duties for the presentation and promotion of the museum, its collection, shows, events, educational lectures and so forth. Film and video produced will represent the museum locally and internationally and will be distributed by a range of methods. Products are expected to be of the highest standards creatively, visually, technically and in terms of research and accuracy. Additionally, the activities of the film specialist are expected to support and integrate highly within the museum, its teams, projects, and exhibitions.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. External:
• Ensure all information concerning films & video, images, and the subjects they represent, or portrait are of very high quality, accurate and passed to staff and 3rd party consumers in a timely manner
• Films & videos produced directly represent the museum and its reputation; all material produced will be consistent with international museum standards
2. Process:
• Must follow QMA policies and procedures
3. Staff:
• Provides up-to-date and accurate film & video services and products to MIA departments as required.
4. Financial:
- Purchase of consumables using Petty Cash.
Necessary knowledge to be able to do the job.
- Strong skills in filmmaking, able to demonstrate skills using of digital video/film cameras, audio equipment and relevant software.
- Use of lights, supports, and lighting techniques
- Skills in digital compositing, manipulation, and use of related software desirable.
- Animation or Motion graphics experience desirable
- Able to tell and write stories
- Able to work on budgets of various sizes
- Knowledge of analogue film and relevant techniques an asset
- Excellent communication skills

- Confidence and desire to implement new ideas and concepts to improve workflow and studio best practices

- Photography and imaging skills are highly desirable
- knowledge with modern film and video production, techniques and equipment; including, but not limited to filming, cinematography, colour grading, editing and compositing.
- Demonstrated experience with photography and digital image manipulation.
- Demonstrated experience with audio equipment and the film and video production, techniques and equipment; including, but not limited to filming, cinematography, colour grading, editing and compositing.
- Demonstrated experience with photography and digital image manipulation.
- Demonstrated experience with audio equipment and the recording of audio.
- Demonstrated experience working with lighting equipment for film and video and or studio photography.
Education, Experience, and certification requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Able to provide an electronic portfolio of professional and/or personal work.
- Minimum 9 years of experience.
